LITIGATION SOLICITOR - TUNBRIDGE WELLS

KNIGHTS SOLICITORS
of Tunbridge Wells are inviting applications for a newly qualified/two-year PQE Litigation Solicitor.
The ideal candidate will have all the following qualities.

  • Communication skills - You must be able to succinctly summarise an argument and be capable of presenting complex legal concepts to clients.
  • Organisation skills - Missing a deadline set by the Court can result in serious penalties, harm your client's case and damage your reputation as a Litigator so time management and organisation skills are immensely important.
  • An eye for detail - Being able to identify small inconsistencies in your opponent's case can be the difference between winning and losing at trial. You need this skill to determine what is pertinent and what is not during the disclosure stage of litigation.
  • Negotiation skills - An absolute necessity for any Litigator, negotiation and persuasion proficiencies help you to convince the judge or opposition of the value in your argument.
  • Adaptability - You must be able to anticipate and overcome unexpected obstacles that habitually crop up during the litigation process.
  • Determination - To succeed as a Litigator you need to have the determination to triumph on your client's behalf. You need to have the strength to remain composed and calm when cases become hectic and complicated.

We are offering is a competitive basic salary and in addition to this we are offering a contractual bonus scheme which is realistic and achievable and could significantly boost your remuneration.  Please send applications to our Practice Manager, colette.chapman@knights-solicitors.co.uk and visit our website at www.knights-solicitors.co.uk to view our profile.

LEGAL CAREERS IN KENT

As part of its role to promote the careers of new and established solicitors wishing to practice in Kent, the Kent Law Society offers publicity for vacancies within the county. These may include:

  • student work and/or study placements
  • training contracts
  • positions for the newly qualified
  • positions for the experienced solicitor

With its wealth of small, medium and large sized firms with myriad specialisms, the county offers a professionally satisfying location for a career in the law. The area has a population of two million inhabitants and several large population centres, but surrounding all is beautiful countryside and coast: Kent deserves the soubriquet of The Garden of England. Added to this is proximity to London and continental Europe, a favourable cost of living compared to the metropolis, and good communications, Kent is a seriously good place to work as a solicitor.

Solicitors Recruitment is a serious issue for the recruiting firm and for the person looking for a position and finding the right match is no easy task. Most candidates and firms with vacancies use agencies to facilitate the process, but this is expensive for the firm. Likewise, recruitment advertising is not cheap. The enterprising candidate should not underestimate the impact he or she can make by writing to carefully-researched target firms with a cv and a reasoned explanation of what the applicant has to offer.

To the recruiting firm, this can show initiative, the ability to research and a potential saving in recruitment cost. This may result in an interview even if the firm had not been actively recruiting before. Kent firms require the best calibre applicants in order to continue to provide the high levels of service and professionalism their clients expect.

Trainee Solicitors Many firms take on trainees, but competition for places is fierce.  It is not uncommon for 500 applications to be made for a place.  The recession has seen a reduction in numbers being taken on.  In Kent, firms are looking for trainees who have a genuine reason to stay in the county, so family or ties in the county are often useful to mention in CV's.  Good relevant work experience also helps.

Norman Cooper Advocacy Prize Kent Law Society has established this prize in association with Kent Law School in memory of Norman Cooper, a former President of the Society and a former County Prosecuting Solicitor.  It is a mooting prize for Medway-based law students.
